My little dual-boxing start up routine

By Ziv - Posted on 03 July 2008

When I decide I'm going to dual-box and play one of the teams, I have a little routine that I do in order to get everything ready. I've been using the paladin as the lead with the priest as backup and support and on auto follow. I'm using two laptop computers, so I also have two keyboards and two mice to deal with, so anything that could be made routine helps considerably.

Side by side computer mice

Before I log in I get the computers set up.

  1. Plug in each computer directly into the router. It could be done over wireless, but there is greater lag and slowdown.
  2. Arrange laptops. I put one in front of me and the other offset to my right. I do this because I bring the two mice together and I find it easier to reach the second keyboard this way.
  3. Turn volume off on the second computer. The double sounds (especially since there's a delay) can be annoying.

Once that is done and I have successfully logged into both accounts, I continue on my little routine.

  1. Invite the other character to a group.
  2. Set the Loot rules to Free For All.
  3. On the support character (priest), I type /focus "lead" where "lead" is the name of the paladin. This is necessary as a lot of my macros will depend on the focus target being set.
  4. I press my AutoFollow macro hotkey. I set a key binding to this macro as you will be using it constantly. This macro is basically /follow "lead"
  5. Apply buffs, and away we go.
