iPhone App: Warcraft Characters 2.0

Warcraft Characters 2.0Yesterday, version 2.0 of Warcraft Characters became available on the iTunes App Store.

It's a good thing that I'm watching Rudi's blog and that Apple has implemented an application update notification feature in iTunes and the iPhone, because there are so many new applications being release that's it hard to keep track of things.

It looks like Rudi has been hard at work addressing some issues in the initial release of this application, as well as revamping the UI, and also adding a new set of cool features:

  • "Faster search! No need to enter your realm’s name. Just enter a character name and choose among all realms where the name exists."
  • "Worldwide region support. US, EU, KR, CN, TW."
  • "Items! Triumphantly show off that one piece of gear in which you had to endlessly run with random PUG’s that kept needing on the one item that was only useful for you."
  • "Reputation! Are you exalted with all factions yet?"

He didn't mention it, but he also updated the icon too. So now it's not so plain.

I just did an update, and gave it a quick run through. The initial release was a very responsive program, and this new version is just as responsive. It maintains it's beautiful and intuitive interface so it's easy to navigate and use. The new items features is very impressive indeed. It shows a nice list of your character's items and then when you click on it opens up a new screen showing you the item. I noticed that it didn't list any enchants that were on the items, but perhaps that will be added in a subsequent release?

I did find one little bug in it that caused it to close, but I already reported this to Rudi. It's a repeatable bug that causes the it to close prematurely, but it only happens at very specific time so you may not even have this happen to you. This actually may very well have been fixed already, but the way Apple controls these applications and it's approval process means that there's a delay in the time of submission of a fix to it being released on the App Store.

So if you are using this application on your iPhone or iPod Touch, hop over to the App Store and grab the update it's well worth it. Here's the direct iTunes download link.
