iPhone App: Warcraft Characters
View your character's information on your iPhone. Warcraft Characters, the latest World of Warcraft related iPhone application was just released today on the App Store. It's written by Rudolf Psenicnik and it's free. Read on, or if you're impatient and just have to see for yourself, here's the iTunes download link.
Here's the application description:
"Characters for iPhone lets you view avatars, basic information, stats, and combat information for all your World of Warcraft characters. Characters caches information on the iPhone so you can view your information and show it to your friends even when online."
Unfortunately this isn't a WoW Armory viewer that many of us are hoping for, but rather an application that will display your character's statistics. So it won't show your presently equipped armor or weapons like in the Armory, but I don't think it was intended to do that at this time. It has a very clean and intuitive interface and very nice for it's first release.
As a 1.0 release I found only one real problem. There is an issue with the application shutting down when entering a realm name that contained a space. A reviewer on the application's App Store page suggested a workaround for this by adding a "+" where the space should be. I'm sure the developer will have this fixed in a subsequent update.
There's room for improvement and I personally would like to see a drop-down menu for selecting the realm, a way to reorganize or group the characters by realm or some other user defined group (like a raid group). It would probably be useful if there was a link to go directly to the official WoW Armory to view the characters since we presently can't see what each character is wearing at this time.
As only the second WoW related native iPhone application to be released, this is one that I'll be using. I could see this as being useful for those times when in a PUG and need to see the stats of the other group members, or a quick look to see if I should engage that flagged character, or some people may find it useful when assembling a raid group and want to make sure they are up to par. The possibilities are bright for this application and I'm glad to see these WoW focused applications coming out.
[Update] EU realm support is coming soon.
[Update] A patch has already been submitted to the App Store that makes some immediate fixes and adds support for EU, KR, CN, and TW realms. We just have to wait for Apple to approve it and push it out.
